I wonder if the lonely widow (November 27) has heard of the University of the Third Age, which has long been established in Hove and has about 400 branches in the country and many others abroad?

It is an organisation for retired people who no longer work full time and whose children are grown up.

It promotes further learning skills by holding many classes from line dancing to the study of history and architecture, languages, music and art appreciation, walking, lunch club, computer skills etc.

The joining fee is £14 per year. Many of the classes are free because retired people give their skills to lead the group. Some charges are made for special subjects.

It is a great way for meeting people with similar interests and is purely for enjoyment - no degrees involved.

More information is available from the Connaught Centre, Hove, or from me on 01273 604787.
