I thought the interview with Sita MD Ian Goodfellow (November 30) was very biased towards the management, with obvious disapproval of the GMB union's 'old-fashioned' response to the management's attempts at blaming the workforce for the problems with our refuse collection service.

But it did expose what Mr Goodfellow really thinks of the people who work for his company. His comments hark back to the 1950s and 'lazy worker' propaganda.

What he really seems to object to is that people actually do want to finish work when they are supposed to and not have their employers tell them to keep working because management has screwed up its own operation.

We have seen the disastrous effects of privatisation in all our services, from the farce on the railways to the constant pressure on the NHS.

It is our New Labour council under a New Labour Government that has awarded this contract to Sita and refuses to accept any responsibility for the chaos this has created.

Anyone who stands up to the insane logic of the market in what should be public services deserves the full support of ordinary workers and trade unionists in Brighton and Hove.

GMB members on the bins will certainly have mine if they do strike.
