The headmaster of a school has described vandals as "mindless" after they wrecked children's work and equipment.

The yobs went on the rampage at Telscombe Cliffs Primary School and sprayed paint across walls.

Several pieces of computer equipment were also damaged in the raid.

Head Andrew Kearsey now plans to set up CCTV cameras and improve lighting to discourage further raids.

Mr Kearsey said youngsters were distraught after some of their mounted display work was wrecked.

Double-glazed windows on a building site at the 600-pupil school were smashed and fire extinguishers were set off.

Mr Kearsey said: "This is very distressing for the children whose work has been ruined and the staff who took so much care over it. This is just a mindless act and I cannot understand it."

Five classrooms are in the main school building and 15 more are based in huts.

Mr Kearsey said the yobs broke into one of the huts and threw paint across internal and external walls.

He said: "They ruined two computer keyboards and threw books and pens all over the place."
