The Government has announced a move to help untangle much of the red tape that has stifled the development of small businesses.
New guidelines to Government departments means they will advise businesses about new legislation at least 12 weeks before it comes into force.
Departments will begin adhering to the guidance from January 1.
David Irwin, chief executive of the Small Business Service, said: "This is a measure for which I have been arguing and it is another important step in the service's drive to minimise regulatory burdens on business.
"I know that small firms need help with regulations that are relevant to them and help with what they need to do to comply with them.
"This new guidance gives small firms a vital learning space they can use to make preparations.
"In addition, the SBS is developing an online system to provide detailed information and advice on regulatory issues as well as all aspects of starting and growing a business.
"The Business Link network is also able to help with advice and support.
"Small businesses employ over half of all jobs in the private sector.
"So it is important that we work together to help make the UK the best place in the world to set up and grow a business."
