A man who drowned off Brighton beach has been identified as a university graduate.
Andre Clarke, 28, from Mitcham, Surrey, was found in the sea west of the Palace Pier, Brighton, at 11.25pm on Monday.
It is thought he fell or jumped from the pier but police are trying to trace witnesses.
It is known he was depressed and his death is thought to be suicide, but a police investigation has been launched.
Mr Clarke, who was between jobs, stayed in a bed and breakfast hotel in Brighton on Sunday but police have yet to identify which one.
They released his description hoping to trace people with information.
Mr Clarke was black, 5ft 5in tall and had a shaved head and a 5cm scar running from the right corner of his mouth.
He wore a black jacket, black shoes and black trousers with a maroon and cream check. He carried a black bag which was found in the sea near his body.
