Comments made by Dr Bob Potter regarding consultation over proposals to improve parking in the Goldsmid area of Hove (November 14) are both confusing and incorrect.

Brighton & Hove Council's project manager Tim Meredith certainly did not say that even if 100 per cent of residents rejected the proposals they would probably still be implemented.

The views of everyone in the area count and we want to hear what they think of the suggested changes, which are aimed at cracking down on illegal parking, improving road safety and easing the pressure on parking space in the area.

The consultation currently taking place in Goldsmid forms part of the overall process to improve transport and the environment for people living, working and visiting Brighton and Hove.

Although priority is given to residents, the parking proposals recognise the demand from the mixture of uses in the area.

Responses to the questionnaires were recently distributed so residents and businesses will provide the council with a view on which option local people prefer and no decision will be taken until after December 4, the closing date for questionnaires to be returned.

One of the options is to do nothing. Should this be the preferred choice, that view will be respected when decisions are taken.
