A simple, touching fact. On Friday afternoon I was in the environmental department at Hove town hall where a man was looking at the grim plans for the King Alfred.

I exclaimed: "Isn't it wonderful!" He looked puzzled and said that he had been trying to sell his house for four months but anybody interested quickly backed out when learning what was to be built nearby. "But it's all off," I said.

I shall never forget the look of joy which came over his face.
