American inventor Randi Altschul has come up with a disposable mobile phone made entirely from paper.

Ms Altschul, who lives in New Jersey, said she had the idea after hearing airline staff complain their cell phones would not work on planes She said: "You get to the airport and your cell phone doesn't work because you are from another country.

"So you just pick up one of these things out of a vending machine and make your call instantly."

The light-weight paper phone will measure only 2in by 3in.

It will be launched by Ms Altschul's company, Dieceland Technologies.

The company also plans to produce a paper laptop.
