Celebrated cartoonist Steve Bell illustrated his support for Oxfam when he donated a number of books to the charity.

Mr Bell, whose witty illustrations for The Guardian newspaper have earned him cult status, was one of a number of Sussex media types who turned out to support the launch of its Local Authors and Illustrators Week.

The shop promotion and window display is designed to encourage more people to visit the second hand book shop in Kensington Gardens, Brighton.

Also at the launch were children's author Miriam Moss, children's illustrator Nick Sharatt and Peter Guttridge, crime writer and organiser of Brighton Festival's Literature Festival.

Countless other celebrities have donated copies of their own books and art work to help raise money for Oxfam's emergency and development work worldwide, including controversial columnist and author, Julie Burchill, and cult sci-fi author Jeff Noon.

An Oxfam spokeswoman, said:"This was an amazing gathering of nationally known local creative talent. We would encourage everybody to follow their brilliant example and donate good quality books to our store."
