Following a £400,000 radical refurbishment, a Hove pub has opened its doors as a stylish and contemporary bar.

The Station, next to Hove Station in Goldstone Villas, was formerly the Hedgehog and Hogs Head, and many people may still remember it as the Cliftonville Hotel.

At the opening of the bar, manager Stuart Thompson said: "The Station has been designed to offer customers complete flexibility. It's a bar and also a pizzeria. It's for unwinding with a cold beer after work and for watching the football or shooting pool with friends.

"It's the place to meet for cocktails on a Friday night and for sinking into a sofa with a coffee and a newspaper on a Sunday morning. The Station is whatever you want it to be."

Two internet stations allow customers to catch up on their e-mail or surf the net.

Drinks include draught and bottled beers and a diverse selection of Old and New World wines. Cocktails and shooters complete the liquor line up.

Stuart said: "The Station is like a great local that's been given a major injection of style.

"It's not exclusive or pretentious and we aim to give all our customers a fantastic time, whether they're here for a quick drink or a leisurely meal."
