Employers have been urged to give their staff paid time off to study after research found most people work such long hours they rarely have time for
training.
The TUC called for workplace learning centres to be set up where training could be also offered to retired employees or friends and family of workers.
General Secretary John Monks said UK employees worked the longest hours in Europe, yet workers on the Continent were better skilled and receive paid time off to learn.
