An investigation will be launched into security at Gatwick Airport after a man was allowed access to restricted zones.

The move follows claims that the man, an undercover reporter, pretended to be a pilot and managed to walk unchallenged into the middle of the flight area where jets park before take-off.

He claimed he was issued with a security pass for £10 by Baseops Europe Ltd, of Gatwick Road, Crawley, which arranges flight plans for corporate aircraft.

He also claimed he bought an airline captain's uniform from a London outfitting centre for BA flight staff.

A Gatwick spokesman said the main focus of the investigation would be how security checks failed before the reporter turned up at Gatwick.
