Paul Young grabbed four goals as Broadbridge Heath thrashed Bosham 9-1 in division two of the Rich City County League on Saturday.

Top scorer Young took his tally to 14 for the season, with further goals from Steve Wright, James Taylor, Lee Carney and Chris Hughes (two).

Ian Hamlet replied for battered Bosham.

Heath boss Sam Chapman is not getting carried away with the result.

He said: "It's only three points. At the end of the season it may go some way to being worth an extra point on goal difference but at this stage of the season it was just important to get three points as we have not played many league games so far."

The victory elevated Heath to fifth, one place above Bosham.

Chapman was surprised by the emphatic nature of the result.

He said: "We have been creating a lot of chances but not putting them away. I didn't think it would be Bosham to suffer but they had a bad day at the office and we had a good day."

Heath have played eight of their ten league matches at home and must now take their good form on the road if they are to push for promotion.

Westfield's Darren Payne missed an open goal against Hailsham but then proceeded to fire in a four-goal salvo in a surprise 4-1 win.

Southwick came from behind to win 2-1 at East Grinstead who finished the game with ten men after skipper Stuart Hardy was sent off in the 65th minute after a flare-up with Wickers' Daren Newman.

Conditions were near impossible during the final 20 minutes, but Newman ploughed through the mud to head the winner with five minutes left from Southwell's cross.

Mile Oak defeated visiting Oving 2-1 with goals from Wayne Whittington and Tony Burnett on 55 and 75 minutes.
