Three Bridges moved up to fifth in the division one after a comfortable 2-1 win away to Lancing.

In the Eighties, Bridges were one of the best sides in the County League but they have endured a few lean years since.

Now things seem to be looking up under joint bosses John Crumplin and Darren Barker.

The squad is currently stretched by injuries and suspensions but that gave a chance at Lancing to 18-year-old Ben Dunning who capped his full debut with the winner.

Crumplin said: "We absolutely dominated the game. It could have been six or seven but we missed a lot of chances in the first half.

"It was an excellent performance in the second half. It is looking good and we have games in hand as well."

Doug Cashman scored his tenth of the season to put Bridges ahead on 61 minutes. Dunning then curled home a terrific 20-yarder into the top corner and that proved enough despite Paul Bunker's late consolation.

Bridges moved above Wick who were held to a goalless draw by lowly Eastbourne Town.

Town had the better chances throughout but Lee Walsh and Leon Cummings were guilty of spurning gilt-edged opportunities.

Created Manager Pete Cherry said: "We are improving with every game and it won't be long before we get out of the mire."

Town moved above Littlehampton who lost 3-2 at home to Sidley United.

Despite a defeat which leaves them second from bottom, Marigolds assistant-boss Steve Bates was not too down-hearted. Bates, who took charge as Andy Taylor was at a family funeral, said: "I am upset we lost but we created enough chances to draw if not win the game."

Jimmy Watson gave Sidley a seventh-minute lead but Jonas Templeman levelled with a delightful lob and Russell Hardwell then had a chance cleared off the line for the Marigolds.

Dave Ward restored the lead before half time only for Templeman to level again just before the hour mark. Owen Ball then put Sidley 3-2 ahead but Littlehampton were unlucky not to snatch another equaliser when young substitute Jason Broomhall's goalbound effort was charged down.

East Preston remain bottom after Jim Thompson's first game in charge ended in a 3-0 defeat at home to Arundel.

Sam Wincell headed home a John Rees cross for the opener. Miles Scerri, who had missed a first-half penalty, made it 2-0 early in the second half and Andy Arnold scored a third in the final quarter. EP had Mark Norrell dismissed in the closing stages.

Steve Hill's 75th minute free-kick was enough to give Selsey a 1-0 win at home to Whitehawk.

Hill's effort squirmed underneath the body of Hawks keeper Ross Standen, who otherwise had a superb game, making a number of excellent saves.

Selsey would have won by more had it more been for one of their own fans.

Supporter Dave Lee took over after a linesman was injured and he later ruled the ball had gone out of play before namesake Paul Lee netted what would have been the second goal.

In the John O'Hara League Cup, Eastbourne United produced a strong second-half performance to beat Wealden 4-0.

Danny Birkins, David Harris (two) and Nick Barden were United's scorers, although Wealden were left to rue Tim Brown's penalty miss when the score was 1-0.
