The leader which argues strongly in favour of a directly-elected mayor for Brighton and Hove is deeply flawed (Argus, September 5).
What really needs to be asked is why the government is prepared to spend millions on selling this idea to the public when there is little enthusiasm for elected mayors across the country.
This attempt to centralise power in the hands of one person is thoroughly undemocratic and raises fundamental issues of public accountability and local government democracy.
