Todd McCann followed in brother Rory's footsteps and it helped Chichester Priory Park lift the under-12s crown at the Sussex Junior Festival.

Rory skippered the last Priory side to win the title four years ago.

Captain Todd hit 63 in the final against Horsham at East Grinstead Sports Club after impressing with 106 not out in a group game against Pagham.

Priory Park manager Mark Trimmer said: "Todd led by example and it was fitting that he captained the team, just like Rory did. There's obviously something in the genes. Todd is thrilled to bits. Darren Harvey, who took a couple of wickets in the final, performed well through the whole week.

"Last year our boys won the Arun and Chichester League and are clearly progressing. They are a smashing bunch and gel well together as a team. They've learned about team spirit, the etiquette of the game and how to play proper cricket, that is playing until they are out instead of after a certain period."

Priory Park totalled 154-3 against Horsham, who were dismissed for 134.

They were undefeated through the week and beat Stirlands, St Peter's (Brighton), Middleton, Pagham and Findon.

Group winners Priory Park and Horsham went through to the final because they had a superior run-rate to St James's Montefiore (Brighton), who were top of the third section.

It completed a fine week for Chris, like elder brother Stephen, a Sussex player. He scored 16 (versus Keymer and Hassocks), 98 (v Worthing), 109 not out (v Goring) and 51 (v Angmering Manor). Luke Browning hit 51 against Keymer.

Manager Rick Heberlein, Chris' father, said: "I don't think the club has ever won anything apart from an under-14s plate competition trophy since the Festival started. I'm pleased for the team."

Their team included Alice Gimson, 12. Herberlein said: "There was only one other girl playing out of the teams we faced. Alice was so enthusiastic.
