Sussex commuters will soon be able to receive news of train delays on their mobile phones.
They will be able to register their regular travel routes with the Railtrack site and receive updates on hold-ups as SMS text messages.
The new service, created by London-based technology firm Kizoom, is expected to be launched in the next two months.
Users will also be able to send text messages to Railtrack's site to receive train times.
Chief executive Damian Bown said the firm had also developed technology which could let Brighton passengers know when their bus was due.
The firm plans to link electronic bus information boards, like those recently installed in Brighton, to phones.
Owners of WAP devices would be able to view the bus board information on their phones.
Mr Bown said: "We could do it in Brighton. Technically, it isn't a challenge."
Roger French, managing director of Brighton and Hove Buses, said mobile bus information could come to Brighton and Hove after a more advanced bus tracking service is installed.
He said: "We're looking at sophisticated systems which would do vehicle location. I think that's the way transport information is moving.
"It's very exciting."
