It is very difficult to agree with Derek Jameson that Princess Margaret is "the most unfortunate of all the Royals" (Argus, August 8).

She is not as unfortunate as Princess Diana, who had the misfortune to marry Prince Charles, who himself is extremely unfortunate in being heir to a job for which he is totally unsuited.

Margaret, like her mother, has never had to do a day's work in her life, thanks to the taxpayers. These dysfunctional people would have far more meaningful lives as commoners.

The country would be enhanced by an elected republic. Royalty have had it. They are an embarrassment.
