Sussex chairman Don Trangmar says there is "no prospect" of the county moving from Hove.

Instead the club will try to re-develop the County Ground to bring it up to a standard where it could stage international cricket. Speaking at the club's AGM last night, Trangmar revealed that Sussex had undertaken an exhaustive search of potential new headquarters.

He said: "We looked at five or six different places throughout the county and we have talked to developers and local authorities, but there has been no success. There is no prospect of moving from Hove in the foreseeable future, but it would be folly to close the door on other possibilities."

A final decision is expected in the next few weeks, but it seems certain Sussex will try to improve their existing facilities and raise the capacity to 8,000.

Trangmar added: "There are three categories of counties at the moment. Those who stage Test matches, those who will be staging international cricket for the first time this year, such as Gloucestershire and Durham, and the disaffected six or seven who are left which include us."

Former chairman Robin Marlar has retired from the committee and replaced by Guy Walker CBE who is also chairman of the Cricket Year Zero project trying to raise £500,000 for the proposed new junior cricket facility at Blackstone. The county made a profit of £8,562 last year after reporting a £194,535 loss in 1998.
