Judge Jules is a world-famous DJ, but went on his first world tour with his mother-in-law.

Janet Shaw played a key role as the Judge was mixing sounds to thousands of frenzied clubbers across the globe.

She packed in her job as a supervisor at a Chichester tea room to act as nanny to her nine-month-old grandson Jake, who has already been dubbed Judge Jake by fans of the disc jockey.

Janet's daughter Amanda, 26, and Judge Jules were married two years ago. The couple decided to ask Janet to become nanny as well as grandma to Jake for the world tour which took the family to Singapore, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, Argentina, Brazil, The Bahamas and Canada.

Janet, 48, who has just returned to her home in Aldwick at Bognor, said: "It has been the experience of a lifetime. I know that Jules is famous in England but his popularity throughout the world is amazing and growing all the time."

Janet used to work at Shepherds Tea Rooms until Amanda and Jules approached her about becoming the family nanny.

She said: "How could I say no? Not only do I get to see my lovely grandson but there was a world tour to look forward to as well. We covered 38,000 miles in just over three weeks, first class all the way, and I must admit it has certainly cured my fear of flying."

Of her son-in-law, she said: "He is a very down to earth, natural person and very quiet and reserved in many respects. He absolutely adores Amanda and Jake Having me as a nanny means they can spend more time together because otherwise they would not see each other for weeks because of his work and lifestyle."

During the tour the working day for Judge Jules started after midnight as the atmosphere started to build up in the clubs where he was making a guest appearance. Janet said Jake coped well with the travelling, even though three days was the longest the family spent at any one destination.

"I had some time for sightseeing with Jake and the highlights for me were Sydney, which I was very impressed with, and Brazil for the beaches, which were paradise."

Now the tour is over Janet is back at home with husband Roy, who works for Stagecoach in Chichester as a controller. But with his backing she is staying on as nanny to Jake and will be looking after him while Jules and Amanda visit Miami for a DJ convention.
