The Princess Royal is visiting Sussex next month as president of the British Knitting and Export Council.

Princess Anne will be touring Charles Kirk and Company at Goring on April 3. The 60-year-old company specialises in school uniform knitwear and sweatshirts for independent retailers in Britain.

It also exports small quantities of clothing to Canada and Bermuda. Staff at Charles Kirk, which employs 100, are looking forward to the visit.

Charles Horton, managing director, said: "Many textile manufacturers in the South East have closed in recent years due to pressure from the high street stores and the increasing numbers of imports. The visit will be a boost to manufacturers in the area."

The Princess will meet staff and unveil a plaque commemorating her visit. She will also open the company's recently-developed internet site.
