EAST Grinstead are convinced they can upset the form book and set up a Sussex Trophy action replay tomorrow.

Gs take on Worthing at Saint Hill in the semi-finals bidding to win through to the county's showpiece occasion for a second successive season.

The winners of what should be a tremendous tussle are likely to face Haywards Heath in the final, with the holders big favourites to see off Heathfield at Whitemans Green in the other semi.

Grinstead lost at Worthing in the league and stand below them in the Three South East table, but director of rugby John O'Brien reckons that will count for little tomorrow.

O'Brien, who has been drafted in to add bulk to the front row, said: "We are quietly confident.

"We're on a bit of a roll and we had a good win at Crawley last week. It was a very solid performance all round.

"But we expect Worthing to be a different kettle of fish because they are a very well-rounded side."

Former Ireland B star Ray Hennessy starts on the bench but his troublesome shoulder gave no problems during a low key midweek run out and he will be unleashed onto the midfield at some stage.

Former Maesteg and London Welsh hooker Rob McGee gets the nod after a superb two-try debut at Willoughby Fields.

Worthing go into the game on the back of a stunning defeat of Crawley followed by dreadful defeat at Park House.

Coach Tim Mackew admitted: "We don't know if our lot will perform or not.

"We were dismal beyond belief last Saturday whereas Grinstead seem to be on the up."

The return of full back Ben Coulson is likely to be the only change from that side, although Worthing were not due to finalise selection until after an extra training session staged last night.

Haywards Heath's home tie with Heathfield may be postponed as the visitors struggle for front row men.

But, if and when the tie goes ahead, expect the holders to have too much pace and guile for Heathfield's renowned battlers, especially if conditions underfoot remain dry.

Nick Killick lifted the trophy four times as Heath skipper and Henry Goodburn is determined to follow suit after taking over the job this season.

Goodburn admitted: "I would hate to be the captain in the season when we didn't win the cup.

"We had a tremendous performance at Effingham & Leatherhead last week and the guys really enjoyed their rugby."

Andrew Cook is away watching the action in Italy this weekend so Owen Ashton wears 15 and Richard Hudson plays scrum half.

Both ties kick-off at 2.30pm.
