A former judge has denied stealing more than £565,245 from the legal publishing company he ran.
Kenneth Bagnall QC appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London and denied 14 charges of theft from New Law Publishing Plc between October 1997 and April 1998.
The 72-year-old, formerly of Wish Hill, Eastbourne, was granted bail until November 6, when his trial is scheduled to start. Judge George Bathurst-Norman was told the trial is expected to last four weeks.
The defendant was called to the Bar in 1950 and served as a deputy circuit judge between 1975 and 1983. He became chairman and chief executive of the company, based off Chancery Lane in London.
