Developers have handed out cheques worth £15,000 as part of a deal with councillors.

Marlborough Leisure pledged the cash when buying Saltdean Lido from Brighton and Hove Council and restoring it. The money has been allocated to 15 different groups in Saltdean covering all sections of the area.

Biggest donation of £10,000 has been made towards a lift fund organised by the Saltdean Community Association who will match it pound for pound to install the new lift in the community centre.

Another £600 has gone to the 42nd Brighton Saltdean Scout Group to cover the cost of two hike tents while the £300 for St Nicholas Pre School will include money on enhancing the garden.

The firm has given £500 to St Martin's Pre School Learning Alliance, £250 towards St Nicholas Mother and Baby Group, £200 to the Saltdean Carers' Support Group and £200 to Saltdean Oval Women's Institute.

The 1st Saltdean Brownies receive £500 and the Guides £200 while another £200 goes to Saltdean Women's Institute. Saltdean United Football Club's youth section receives £1,000 for sports equipment.

Marlborough Leisure said there is still another £10,000 to distribute. Applications can be made to the company at 26 Marlborough Place, Brighton.
