HAYWARDS Heath and Lewes both reached the festive break with important wins in London Two South .

Heath's 52-13 verdict at home to Dorking keeps them among London Two South's leading pack while lowly Lewes lifted spirits with their 36-0 mauling of Askeans.

Lewes took a while to get going in a stop-start first half at the Stanley Turner Ground, with just a penalty try and Mark Wignall's conversion to show for 33 minutes of effort.

Then flanker Andy Ware rounded off a good lineout move for his fifth try of the season and back row colleague Ross Armour also struck, with two Wignall conversions providing a comfortable half-time cushion.

Tim Hemsley, a tenth try of the season from Jez King, and Armour again rounded off a more convincing second half effort.

Askeans had a man sent-off late on.

Full back Owen Ashton was again in outstanding form as Haywards Heath ran Dorking off Whitemans Green in convincing style.

Ashton, who has made the No.15 spot his own following an injury to Sussex player Andrew Cook, scored a try, four conversions and three penalties for a personal tally of 22 points, taking him to 90 for the league and cup season.

Heath dominated up front, with Mark Devlin, Dave Atkin and Nick Dinsdale prominent, and were deadly behind the scrum.

Skipper Henry Goodburn enjoyed it, saying: "It was a great way to finish off the year. The players can enjoy their break."

Centre Vince Rolandi scored a hat-trick, wing Mark Pymm grabbed a try in each half and the captain also scored after a sweeping move.
