Strong was unable to force his way into the side last season and Sussex invited him to find another county.
General manager Dave Gilbert said: "We will be sorry to see Michael go, but he is 25 and he couldn't wait any longer."
Meanwhile, Sussex's former chief executive Tony Pigott has failed in a bid to land the same role at Notts.
