BLIND war hero Reg Goding is furious after thieves ransacked his home and stole his treasured medals.

And today the 82-year-old veteran branded the raiders cowards.

He blasted: "I would just like to get my hands on the people who did this."

Reg returned from holiday with his wife, Eileen, to discovered his prized collection of eight medals, which he kept in a drawer in his dining room, had been taken.

A tape recorder he stored names and addresses on was also stolen, along with his wife's china collection.

Grandfather-of-eight Reg said: "I'm more cut up about the medals than anything else. I don't know how much they are worth but it's the sentimental value of them.

"Whoever did this must have been really heartless and unthinking - the biggest cowards in creation.

"I would like to meet them on my terms - in a darkened room with the doors locked."

The couple were told of the break-in by their neighbour, Alf Taylor, while they were visiting family in Newcastle.

When they returned to their home in Chailey Avenue, Rottingdean, they discovered their burglar alarm had been destroyed, telephones ripped from the wall and drawers rifled.

Eileen said: "They smashed windows to get in and ransacked everything."
