HORRIFIED mum Priscilla Winnan scooped out a spoonful of coffee - and discovered a bug lying in the jar.

Squeamish Priscilla, 26, screamed and dropped the jar of Nescafe when she spotted the insect amongst the granules.

Priscilla had bought the £3.69 jar a week before at Asda, Hollingbury.

Her husband Philip was mystified by the bug. He said: "It's the strangest looking thing I've seen.

The whole family drinks coffee including the couple's children Lauren, eight, and Ryan, seven, and the jar was half full when the bug was discovered.

Philip has taken the insect to the environmental health department at Brighton and Hove Council.

A council spokeswoman "The Environmental Health Office have taken photos of the beetle and they will contact the store, the customer and the manufacturers as part of their investigations."

Eve Ridley, Asda's deputy customer services manager said: "Asda offers a 'no excuse' guarantee and we will gladly give a refund for the returned jar of coffee."

Nestle said they would investigate the claim fully when the family contacts them.
