Jean Calder's piece about The Level (The Argus, July 9) was superb.

The Level holds great affection for me.

I used to walk through it to Fawcett School in York Place in the Sixties and always used to have a go on the swings and roundabout - long before the dreaded skateboard had even been invented.

And, apart from the odd bit of "Linda loves Harry", I never saw any graffiti in those days.

My mother also used to take me there for the day. You couldn't do that now - you'd get mugged by a drug addict looking for money to buy their first fix of the day.

There seems no respect these days for anyone or anything.

It all goes back to discipline. Today, there is none and until there is, the situation will only escalate.

The skateboard park should definitely go. The only people I have seen use it are yobs.

Some park attendants who mean business would stand up to the yobs and take their drink off them.
