For the second year running, local theatre group Incisor Productions has bagged the most picturesque park around for an open-air play.

The company is made up of professional actors and directors who all live locally and was founded in 1998 by Sarah Mann and Jim Madden.

Like last year's Twelfth Night, it will be an informal affair where the audience can bring along picnics, dogs and drinks.

The surrounding nature, such as the scented garden, the willow tree, the little Tudor cottage and the dovecote is used as a backdrop for this comedy of manners famously featuring Lady Bracknell and her horror of handbags.

Directed by RSC veteran Stephen Casey, it stars Lucinda Cowen - who played Melanie of the crazy laugh in Neighbours - and Mike Darnell from A Prison Diary. As well as offering an outdoor alternative to Shakespeare, the choice of play is particularly apt for its surroundings since Lord Alfred Douglas, aka Bosie, aka playwright Oscar Wilde's lover, lived on the square.

"I'm sure Oscar wandered around the park lots, so it felt appropriate to do his most famous play here," says Sarah.

Starts 7pm, tickets cost £10 and £5. Call 01273 736222.
