Workers in Sussex are paid less per hour than the national average.
Figures released today by the GMB union found the gross average hourly earnings of full-time workers in Brighton and Hove was £12.05.
In West Sussex the figure was slightly higher at £12.21. East Sussex had the lowest at £11.18.
All three are below the UK average of £12.75 and the South-East average of £13.91.
The figures come from analysis of the annual survey of hours and earnings 2004 published by the Office of National Statistics.
GMB regional secretary Richard Ascough said: "GMB is today publishing the yardsticks where workers can measure where they come in the pay league.
"The yardsticks are drawn from reliable official figures for pay. Workers that compare unfavourably with those yardsticks need to join with the GMB in seeking a better deal for hard-working lower-paid workers."
