Crawley Town have sold top scorer Allan Tait to Canvey Island for £2,000.

Tait, who scored 16 goals in 42 appearances last season, is believed to have left because of the club's plans to go full-time.

Reds are planning to turn professional before the start of the season on August 13 and Tait was unwilling to give up his day job as a green keeper at a golf course.

Strikers Danny Davidson and Dan Marney have been put on the transfer list for the same reason.

Manager Francis Vines said: "He (Tait) has not left on bad terms, there is no animosity. He did well last season but some days he was fantastic and some days he was a bit laboured because he has a hard job where he has to get up early."

Meanwhile, Vines has further strengthened his squad with two new signings.

Former Torquay and Oxford defender David Woozley and midfielder Lee Blackburn, who was released by Norwich in the summer, put pen to paper before last night's pre-season friendly 1-0 win against a weakened Crystal Palace side at the Broadfield Stadium.

Crawley's squad also included two trialists, former Leicester trainee Leon McSweeney and Ryan Jerwood, who was released by MK Dons in the summer.

Vines said: "David looked very good indeed and I am glad he signed on the dotted line. Young Lee looked good as well, he's full of energy and gets around the park well."

Woozley started in the centre of defence alongside James Donovan and, apart from a shaky opening five minutes, looked a good acquisiton.

The 25-year-old was deceptively quick, was rarely beaten in the air and was vocal in organising the rest of the back four.

Woozley also showed he could be an asset going forward at set pieces. He set up an opening in the first half when he flicked on a free-kick to Steve Burton, who was beaten to the ball by Sam Togwell.

That was before Simon Wormull gave Reds a deserved half-time lead on 31 minutes after good work by Davidson.

The big striker turned two defenders by the corner flag, allowing Burton to steal in and pull the ball back for Wormull to sweep into the bottom corner.

Reds should have a second soon after when Richard Hodgson disappointingly headed high over the bar from another good cross from Burton.

Hodgson did better two minutes before the break with a looping cross-cum-shot which cannoned off the top of the crossbar.

Woozley almost marked his debut with a goal on 69 minutes with a towering header which came back off a post.

Burton went close moments later when he flashed a long range drive just wide.
