Steven King has completed his 11th pre-season signing at Lewes with the capture of highly-rated defender Steve Robinson.

The towering centre back was a big favourite with last season's Conference south champions Grays Athletic.

However, he could not commit himself to full-time football following Grays' promotion to the Conference National and King has beaten off a number of other clubs to clinch his signature.

King said: "Grays wanted to keep him but he has got a really good job and couldn't go full-time with them.

"There were a lot of clubs after him and I see it as a massive signing for us.

"He is 6ft 3in, experienced, a winner and very quick. He is quite slimly built but aggressive too and attacks the ball so well.

"I didn't think I would get him because there were too many other clubs in for him, so I'm delighted."

Robinson has previously played for Edgware, Cheshunt, Hayes and Greenwich Borough.

King is unlikely to offer a deal to Australian midfielder Nick Stavroulakis, who has been on trial at the club.

Lewes won 3-1 in their latest friendly away to Kent League side Beckenham Town thanks to goals from Amos Foyewa (two) and Jean-Michel Sigere.

The Rooks continue their pre-season programme at home to Conference side Aldershot tonight (7.45).

Former Lewes striker Marc Whiteman had another run-out for Eastbourne Borough on Monday as they lost 4-1 to Horsham, for whom Jamie Taylor struck a hat-trick.
