Sussex women's team have won the Frizzell County Championship for a third year running.

Led by England captain Clare Connor, Sussex topped the four team first division by four and a half points following the final round of matches at Cambridge.

Connor said: "I'm very proud of my team for securing the title for the third year running. We trained hard pre-season and after the season began we reaped the rewards of that.

"We are excited about the future of Sussex cricket as we still have a young, developing side."

Three championship games were played prior to Cambridge with Sussex beating Lancashire, losing to Kent and the game against Yorkshire being abandoned with Connor's side in a winning position.

At Cambridge, Sussex started with a 41-run victory over Lancashire in a game reduced to 28 overs a side due to rain.

Alexia Walker (43 not out) and Caroline Atkins (38) helped Sussex post 175-6, then Walker (2-22) and Connor (2-24) bowled well to restrict Lancashire to 134-7.

Having been put in by Yorkshire, Sussex were in trouble at 25-3 but a partnership between 16-year-old Sarah Taylor (81) and Connor (79) ensured a total of 236-8. In reply, Yorkshire were bowled out for 150 with Rosalie Birch taking 2-9 and Charlotte Burton 2-10. The match against Kent was abandoned due to rain.

Manage Terry Burton said: "This was again a magnificent performance from a squad that has trained extremely hard and were well prepared with a fantastic team spirit. It is helped by the close relationship with Sussex County Cricket Club, who allow us full use of their facilities."
