In response to Mrs Janet Smith (Letters, July 30), regarding opponents of the Hollingdean "waste transfer facility" - or dump - I'd like to assure her that protestors are not Nimbies but concerned parents and residents, who fear for their children's and neighbours' health, welfare and sanity.

I live near the proposed site and my child attends Downs Infants School which could be devastated by this facility.

The last thing on my mind is our house price (not least because I doubt we could afford to move) but because what really matters is the education and wellbeing of children who attend Downs Infants and other schools close by.

It is because of the risk to these children's health alone (never mind all the other reasons against this site) Brighton and Hove City Council should reject Onyx's proposals.

I don't know the situation in Portslade but I would be appalled if residents there were being affected by exactly that which we fear here.

Far from being a village oasis, Hollingdean is a densely populated and busy area, already blighted by traffic, air pollution and lorries.
