While the news about falling seafront crime (The Argus, July 30) is most welcome and I applaud the good work Sussex Police are doing, the photograph which accompanied the article showed four officers on bikes.

Only two of them are wearing proper cycle helmets and the other two are wearing ordinary police headgear which would offer little, if any, protection in an accident.

I have continually nagged and cajoled my two children into wearing cycle helmets, even to the extent of buying "designer label" ones so they could look, in their own words, "cool". I expect I am not alone in doing this.

But then there is a photo of police officers riding bikes without helmets which seems to suggest it doesn't matter after all.

Perhaps your photographer could take another photo of them all in proper headgear, with some words of advice from a road safety officer about the importance of wearing cycle helmets.

And I hope the photo was taken in a proper cycle lane, not just on the pavement.
