I was pleased K Schwester underlined the need for "watchdogs who regularly check hospitals and nursing homes" (Letters, July 28).
In fact, these watchdogs already exist and do exactly this work.
The Commission for Social Care Inspection inspects and regulates all care homes, as well as other care services and councils' social services.
