Get your motor running and head to Brighton's grungiest rock venue for not one but two up and coming acts. This double whammy of sheer swaggering

new talent features LA's The Blood Arm and London's Havana Guns.

Rising stars both, The Blood Arm has been the name on all the coolest lips since Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos sang their praises and claimed them as his favourite band.

Described by NME as: The embodiment of everything rock 'n' roll might ever hope to be, a technicolor celebration of youth, passion and vitality, The Blood Arm bash out songs that pulsate with sweaty soul.

Curly-haired and slightly chubby cherub of a frontman Nathaniel Fregoso has been hailed as a thrilling, inebriated hybrid of The Doors' Lizard King and Julian Casablancas of The Strokes. But Nathaniel's influences reach deeper than that.

"I'm a huge fan of James Brown and a lot of older soul like Sam Cooke and stuff, he says. "The live performance is influenced by that.

"When we play we try to make it an event, rather than just a show. We want people who come to our shows to dance, end of story. This is music, live rock music! It HAS to be exciting! It HAS to be amazing! And obviously we've got Ben Lee, our Master Of Ceremonies."

Ben Lee, the band's lifelong friend and mascot MC, embodies the collective punk rock persona of The Blood Arm. "The Blood Arm don't care about making music to listen to," says Ben. "They care about making music to feel."

The band recently played a number of acclaimed UK shows, including a support slot on the Maximo Park tour as well as their own sold-out headline shows.

This gig is the first of five across the country before new single Want x3 is released early next month - this follows their single on the City Rockers label, Say Yes, which was released in April. The band are completing work on their forthcoming debut album.

Support comes from mixed London five piece Havana Guns, an ambiguous but bewitching blend of sweet vocals, droning guitars, warm organ sounds and tambourines. Describing themselves as "pretty, willing and vacant," the band released their first single She Always Goes Down earlier this summer, to the approval of XFM.

A short tour of northen England swiftly followed including a support slot with Clor. Fronted by Swedish blonde, Susanne Aztoria, the musicians met two years ago by chance, atop the Eiffel Tower in Paris. A few days later they decided to form a band. The result? Think Blondie and Dolly Parton versus The Velvet Underground.
