Richard Pacquette is preparing to fire Worthing to promotion.

The 22-year-old summer signing believes he can score the goals to help the Rebels achieve their target of Conference south football.

And in doing so Pacquette can bolster his own dream of returning to League football.

It is only two years since Pacquette played for Queens Park Rangers in the Second Division play-off final in front of 66,096 at the Millennium Stadium.

On May 25, 2003, he was in the starting line-up alongside the likes of Paul Furlong and Kevin Gallen as the Super Hoops went down 1-0 to Cardiff.

But since leaving Rangers in September 2004, Pacquette has had a nomadic time, taking in spells at Milton Keynes Dons, Brentford, Farnborough, Stevenage and Hampton and Richmond.

Now he wants to settle down and pick up a career which had promised so much.

Pacquette, who has signed a two-year contract at the Gladwish Stadium, said: "I enjoyed my time at QPR. I was there from the age of 13 and broke through into the first team at 18.

"I played in the play-off final against QPR which was a good experience.

"But I have been a bit of a journeyman since then. I went to MK Dons on a non-contract basis and was doing well but because of the situation there it didn't work out. I went to Brentford on a week-to-week to help out Martin Allen because he had a few injuries. I went to Farnborough and Hampton. I wasn't stable last year which disappointed me."

The chance to settle down with Worthing appealed to Pacquette, who marked his first start by scoring in a pre-season friendly against Albion.

He said: "The club spoke to my agent. I saw how they did last year and knew they were a decent outfit. I know Lee Charles (also ex-QPR) and he said they had a good side and he enjoyed it there.

"I need somewhere where I am stable. I am ready for the start and I just want to score lots of goals.

"We are looking strong and have a good side. We are good enough to win the league."

Pacquette netted six League goals in 31 appearances for QPR and would love to return to League football.

He said: "I am still only 22 and that is my aim to get back into the League. I feel I am good enough to play in the League.

"I want to enjoy my football, do well for Worthing and help them to promotion."

Pacquette could be joined by two other new strikers in Worthing's squad for tomorrow's opener away to Wealdstone.

Much-travelled former Lewes striker Mark Watson has signed on a non-contract basis this week after impressing in pre-season and one-time Albion forward Stafford Browne was expected to put pen-to-paper at training last night.

Worthing have also completed the non-contract signing of goalkeeper Chris May, who was released by Albion at the end of last season.

May makes his debut at Wealdstone in place of Mark Ormerod, who begins a threematch ban held over from last season.

Ormerod is one of six players missing for Worthing. Lee Charles starts a two-match ban, Andy Alexander is at his father's wedding, Andy Lutwyche is still playing cricket, Matt Allen is out with an ankle problem and Jamie Brotherton is on holiday.

In addition, former Albion skipper Paul Rogers is rated 50-50 with a calf problem and Owen Hill has been struggling with a stomach bug while striker Sam Francis hopes to play after flying in from a trip to Mexico today.

Transfer-listed forward Ronnie Green, who has been training with Carshalton, is not included in the squad.
