Albion have opened contract negotiations with striking prospect Jake Robinson.

The Seagulls are hoping for a swift 'Yes' from Robinson, whose current deal expires at the end of the season.

Manager Mark McGhee and chairman Dick Knight had preliminary talks earlier this week with the 18-year-old and his father Dave.

"They will now have a day or two to get back to us," McGhee said. "I think what we have put to Jake is very realistic and we hope he comes back to us quickly."

The move to secure Robinson's long-term future comes after midfielder Dean Hammond signed a two-year extension to his contract, which was also due to expire at the end of the season.

Robinson, in the starting line-up for Albion's last six Championship matches, is being pressed for his place by Colin Kazim-Richards for tomorrow's visit to next-to-bottom Burnley.

Kazim-Richards scored the Seagulls'second equaliser moments after replacing Robinson in the second half of last Saturday's 2-2 home draw with Coventry.

Burnley have hit 14 goals in their last five home games but McGhee is expecting his forward line to make life equally difficult for the Clarets'defence after Albion scored three in their last away outing at Leeds.

"It will be tough for Burnley as well, we are a good team now," McGhee said. "We are asking questions of other teams now that previously we weren't and I think we can go there expecting to score."

Albion have been drawn away to Ringmer in round two of the Sussex Senior Cup on November 2 (7.45). The County League club are managed by former Seagull John Crumplin.
