Fresh-faced pop star Jamie Cullum charmed fans during a charity stunt.

The singer helped raise £1,700 for the Samaritans group before his concert at the Brighton Centre on Saturday.

He joined volunteers to shake some tins for the cause, getting his fans to put cash in.

During the show, Cullum wowed fans by dancing on his piano and belting out tunes from his latest album.

One volunteer said: "Jamie was really friendly and enthusiastic about helping out and promoting our work. It really made the evening for us."

The money will go towards the running of the Brighton and Hove branch in Dubarry House, Newtown Road, Hove.

A charity spokesman said: "People don't often realise that every branch has to raise its own funds and every penny we raise is spent locally.

"The money will be spent keeping the branch going and paying for phone bills which as you can imagine, are huge."

The branch takes more than 45,000 calls each year with running costs of £80 a day.

The Samaritans service is available 24 hours a day on 0845 909090.
