Yorick Williams today admitted he is disillusioned with British basketball.

And that looks like hastening the departure of the ever-popular Moss Side maverick from Genesis Brighton Bears, providing his agent secures a deal abroad.

The England international appears highly unlikely to be on the Bears' team bus when they visit Newcastle Eagles a week on Friday.

And he will probably be saying goodbye to any hopes of playing for his country in the Commonwealth Games if he takes a more lucrative job abroad.

Williams has brought energy and a sporadic three-point threat in his two-game stint back in Sussex after leaving Birmingham Bullets.

Those two appearances have produced 30 points, six threepoint successes from 18 attempts and nine rebounds.

He has also taken at least a couple of charges and ignited interest in the win over Birmingham, Bears' only victory in their last four home games.

But he admitted staying in the BBL did not appeal after top-scoring for Bears in a low-quality, poorly attended clash at Crystal Palace on Saturday as they lost 78-58 to shorthanded London Towers.

He also took a swipe at refereeing standards in the league as officials Marcel Cimpan and, more particularly Rob Hickman, infuriated coach Nick Nurse and his team.

Williams, who has already had a spell at Aris in Greece, admitted: "Financially it's just not worth me playing basketball.

"I like playing but it doesn't pay the bills. It's not worth it.

"You've seen the game (on Saturday).

"The abuse the Brighton Bears got from these referees is amazing. I tried to step back and not say anything to the refs but I couldn't help it.

"It was unbelievable the amount of calls they actually said they missed.

"It was 'We didn't see that Yorick'.

"I said to myself 'Why am I putting myself through this mental torture, talking to these people when the referees don't want to get any better?'.

"They see everything they want to see and don't see anything else.

"It's just like 'I can't call it because I didn't see it'."

The 30-year-old shooting guard added: "I've had enough.

"Financially, if it doesn't improve for me I obviously can't afford to play in England.

"Right now I'm pretty much done (in England).

"My agent is looking in Italy and Greece and he's going to get back to me next week.

"I enjoyed the game. It was going well but we we never got over the hump.

"But they (Bears) are a great group of guys."

If Williams does go, his parting shot will have been one in support of Nurse.

The Bears chief has, so far this season, failed to recruit a team capable of challenging for honours but his former captain admits his coaching fire burns as brightly as ever.

Williams said: "It was good being coached by Nick again. I've seen some of Nick's old flair.

"Some of his subbing was excellent. It was good to be around him again.

"He's definitely got his hands full because we are not as experienced as we used to be back in the day.

"We've got Drew (Alleyne), we've got Ronnie (Baker). We've got some experience on the team.

"But then we've got some guys who are not quite there.

They are just about there but not quite which makes Nick's job a lot harder.

"I think he's going to make some drastic changes. I don't know what he's going to do but he's going to make some changes."
