Mark McGhee has challenged four of his squad to "play themselves into contention" for Sunday's game against Crystal Palace.

Leon Knight, Charlie Oatway, Jason Dodd and Albert Jarrett all play in the Reserves at Aldershot today (2pm).

Places are up for grabs against Palace following the Seagulls' 3-0 defeat in their last outing at Stoke and the absence of the suspended Paul McShane.

Knight has apologised after he was dropped from the squad for Stoke because of the way he reacted to being substituted in Albion's last home game against Wolves.

Oatway has missed the last two fixtures with a neck injury, Jarrett the last three with a foot problem, while ankle surgery has sidelined Dodd from first team action since the end of August.

McGhee said: "These lads have got to play themselves into contention. Leon needs a game, Jason hasn't played for a while and Charlie and Albert have been injured."

On-loan Southampton goalkeeper Alan Blayney, who made only his second appearance of the season at Stoke, plays in goal today and he is a certain starter against Palace.

"It is a big game for us on Sunday," McGhee said. "On the back of our win up there the last thing we want to do is lose to them at home.

"That could affect us in a way other games haven't. We are good at putting results behind us but I sense this game is slightly different, a bit of a watershed."
