The father of a student missing in Cambodia is flying to Bangkok today to search for his son.

Mike Gibson will spend about a week in Phnom-Penh where his son Eddie, 20, disappeared one year ago.

Eddie, a former Cardinal Newman School pupil from Hove, dropped out of Leeds University last September and flew out to Cambodia where he had spent time during his gap year.

He was last seen by a Cambodian girl with whom he had a holiday romance on October 23 when he told her he was going to Thailand but would return.

Mr Gibson will meet police and government staff to see what is being done to find Eddie and he will hand out leaflets, posters and wristbands to highlight Eddie's story.

Mr Gibson said: "We are really hoping for a breakthrough with information leading to Eddie's whereabouts.

"All the progress we have made has been the result of our persistence. It's been very frustrating but we are not going to give up.

"We owe it to Eddie to find out what happened."

Mr Gibson will hold a Press conference with South East Asian media next Wednesday to tell people about Eddie's disappearance and hopes this will spread the message across the region.

Eddie's family, including his mother Jo Gibson-Clark and his brothers Max, 16, and Elliott, 26, held a prayer service for Eddie earlier this month. Mr Gibson said: "It was really uplifting.

We had hundreds of people there.

"We have had great support from friends and family all along but the service really energised us."

The family hopes British police will get involved in the investigation to find Eddie but they must first be invited by Cambodian authorities which has been delayed.
