this is Brighton offers a critical view of what's hot for the coming week.

Nothing, The Freebutt, Brighton, Sunday, November 20
- Described as evoking "the mesmerising qualities of Mogwai and the anger of Nirvana", home-grown rockers Nothing are playing a triumphant last night on their own patch as the finale to a nationwide tour. The three-piece outfit have been around in various incarnations for ten years and their reputation for sweet, buzzing riffs and melodic beats has gained momentum of late. Inspired by a hearty dislike for over-produced, trend-driven music, Nothing play exactly what they want and in the style they choose. This refreshingly frank attitude finally got them spotted last year when they signed a deal with up-and-coming Brighton label Marowak Records. Starts 7.30pm, tickets cost £4. Call 01273 603974.

Blondie, The Brighton Centre, Brighton, Sunday, November 20
- Blondie still rock and they know it. With Deborah Harry, the undisputed mother of all rock chicks, at the helm it's hard for them to do anything else. Arguably the greatest pop band to emerge out of the New York punk scene in the Seventies, Blondie have enjoyed huge success over the years and they're not done yet. Their latest offering, The Curse Of Blondie, takes its inspiration from the kitsch world of horror flicks and has met with wide critical acclaim. Their UK tour looks set to be a belter as both old and new material are sure to be performed with gusto and a hefty portion of style. Starts 7.30pm, tickets cost £30. Call 0870 900 9100.

Return of the Bush, Joogleberry Playhouse, Brighton, Thursday, November 24
As out-there as the great lady herself, Fake Bush aka Lucy Bundy is a treat for anyone with a wry appreciation of Queen Kate. An avid Bush-ite, Lucy has spent years perfecting her act and recently won a national soundalike competition for her canny impression of Ms Bush's awesome vocals. Despite Lucy's technical ability this remains, at heart, an affectionate salute to the high priestess of pop with bizarre costume changes and a troop of dancing green elves thrown in for good measure. With Kate's famed dislike of live performance, this fitting tribute is probably the closest most of us will get to that elusive Bush magic. Starts 8pm, tickets cost £6. Call 01273 687171.
