I would like to add my thoughts to those of many others who see the proposed King Alfred development in Hove as a mistake.
I thought it seemed slightly odd to build in such a prominent place but I get the impression Brighton and Hove City Council is hell-bent on making a name for itself at whatever cost.
However, today I have been reading a book I was given as a birthday present. It is called Brave New City by Anthony Seldon. The book made me realise how much demolition and rebuilding has taken place in Brighton and Hove over a fairly short time.
The carnage is all there, written down in words and in vivid pictures that show just how short-sighted all the councils, Labour or Conservative, have been in their decisions over what to build and where. This book should be a "must read" for all residents and especially for councillors, who need to be alerted to all that has gone before and to reconsider their decisions over all planning applications.
They should ask themselves whether this is what they want to be remembered for in years to come and maybe star in another book lamenting the city as it used to be.
