Hastings United have sacked manager Neville Southall.

Former Wales and Everton goalkeeper Southall was appointed manager at the Ryman League division one outfit last December following Steve Lovell's resignation and his dismissal comes with United eighth in the table on 28 points with three games in hand on leaders Horsham on 39.

However, Hastings have lost four of their last five league games. United chairman Dave Walters said: "It is with regret that the club have dispensed with the services of first team manager Neville Southall.

"Unfortunately, there have recently been an increasing number of issues on which Neville and I have disagreed and it had got to the point where our working relationship had broken down, beyond the point of repair, as far as I was concerned.

"However, there is no animosity between us and we wished each other the best of luck for the future.

"I would like to record my thanks to Neville for his considerable effort and commitment in trying to take the club further."

Southall's assistant, Vince Moorton, and reserve team manager Alan Green have resigned in the wake of Southall's sacking.

Southall was unavailable for comment last night while Walters is set to take caretaker charge of United on Saturday for the trip to Bashley.
