Brighton and Hove City Council employs about 7,000 people, and the record of only 30 staff members dismissed on disciplinary grounds since April 2003 supports my view that an alcohol ban is unnecessary.
The council employs adults and should treat them like adults and use disciplinary procedures should they err.
However, if we have a ban on staff drinking during working hours, councillors should follow suit and not drink before or during council business.
There should be one law for all.
Setting up a working group to study the issue, the preferred Bodfish route, would be a waste of time and money. Just do it.
