Burgess Hill Town councillors may claim the site for the proposed medical surgery is a car park, as The Argus reported WHEN, but the Sidney West (January 4) is, in fact, a cricket pitch and one of the few green spaces left close to Burgess Hill town centre.

This is simply an example of greed on the part of the councillors, who have no respect for the wishes of the late Sidney West. He entrusted this site to them for exclusively recreational facilities, more than 80 years ago.

As for local residents, having a two-storey building overlooking their homes, which are already built on an incline, this can't be welcome.

And this from a council which only recently refused three-year temporary planning permission for a tree-house on the grounds it invaded someone's privacy.

The resulting chaos from building a surgery on one of the most congested roads in Burgess Hill doesn't make much sense either.
