Unmaintained gas regulators are an overlooked potential crisis and are found in most homes and businesses throughout the UK.

I have just had mine replaced by Seeboard Energy which replaced it within the hour after I reported it. The symptoms were pilot lights going out when gas appliances came on, food cooking incorrectly and heating not working properly.

The moment I reported the fault to Seeboard, it insisted I turned the gas off immediately.

It seems gas suppliers no longer change gas regulators and, after about 15 years, the regulator can fail, giving rise to the above problems. I believe the old Gas Board changed them automatically.

How many people are going to suffer the consequences of loss of heating, eating badly-cooked food and the possible risk of gas poisoning because their gas regulator is causing their pilot light go out?

Everyone should know about this problem or do we have to wait for a coroner's inquest before someone does something about them?

Replacements should be provided as a matter of course by gas suppliers. I would like to thank IGS Technical Services for sorting out my regulator.
